We must admit that we are naturally good at looking, finding and making excuses.
Sometimes, even before we do something, we start by quietly thinking about poor support, constraints, difficulties or unrealistic expectations that we are going to face.
Sometimes, you make excuses
before you even begin a project by reasoning “I can start working on this project, and if things does not work out right, I can say that it was because …”
Such thinking is the first warning sign that you may be a bad project manager and the project you are managing is sooner or later is heading towards trouble.
With excuses in mind and as you use your left brain, your subconscious mind starts working on justifications, reasons, excuses, and someone to share the blame.
Excuses gives you the strength and confidence that you will not be alone in time of trouble.
Project with a built-in all-purpose excuse all too often end up failing in some way. It would have a list of ready to go excuses, somebody to blame and something to say when the going get rough.
What happens if no matter what, you refuse to look for help from excuses?
You know very well that accomplishments are filled with people who are always looking forward and not looking for excuses.
Give it a try. If you work to avoid excuses, you may never need to blame anyone.
